In addition to FWF membership and its own sustainability label, Olymp continues to adhere to its own goals for environmental protection. In 2020/21, the company headquarters will remain one hundred percent climate-neutral, according to Bietigheim-Bissingen.

The climate protection consultancy ClimatePartner GmbH from Munich created a corporate carbon footprint (CCF) for the shirt manufacturer for the years 2016 to 2020 on behalf of Olymp. This was done based on the guidelines of the private transnational Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) initiative, which balances and records greenhouse gas emissions.

“We are fully aware of our corporate responsibility. That is why we do everything we can to design our actions and processes in such a way that the ecological footprint is as small as possible,” says Managing Director Mathias Eggle.

By purchasing green electricity and photovoltaics alone, almost 7,000 tons of carbon dioxide have been saved in recent years.

“Within the evaluation process, it is very important to us that all aspects are taken into account. For us, this inevitably includes employee mobility, which is often neglected,” says Eggle.

After all, with several hundred employees at the site, even in times of home office and short-time work, a not inconsiderable part of the carbon dioxide emissions is caused by journeys to and from the workplace. Companies have to compensate for this accordingly.

The climate protection projects supported by Olymp worldwide include the protection of the swamp forests in Rimba Raya (Indonesia) and the “Clean Drinking Water” initiative, which ensures the drinking water supply for thousands of people in Odisha, India.

In addition, Olymp claims to support the project “Friendly Ovens”, which provides people in Bangladesh with the most environmentally friendly cooking facilities possible, in order to provide appropriate educational work as well as to curb the health risk to the population.

As a result of these measures, according to Olymp 2020/2021, almost 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide could be offset.
