The latest study by the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Chile (CNC), which measures informality in electronic commerce, reveals that of the total online purchases in the country during the first half of the year, about 1,193 million dollars they were intended for informal purchases on the digital channel.
According to the CNC, this amount is 42% higher than the amount accumulated in the first six months of the previous year.
Regarding the analysis of the second quarter, the entity reveals that in said period the purchases made through digital platforms totaled 5,324 million dollars, of which 692.1 million were destined to informal e-commerce.
In the comparison of transactions carried out between national and international sites, the results of the CNC reveal that during the second quarter of 2021, 595.2 million dollars were spent on informal purchases in national sites, increasing by 37% compared to the first quarter. .
Meanwhile, the amount allocated to informal purchases on international portals was 96.8 million dollars, which represents an increase of 49% compared to the first quarter.
Regarding preference categories, fashion remains in the first place for Chileans. Specifically, 10% of informal transactions through digital platforms during the second quarter correspond to clothing, while footwear appears in fourth place in preferences with 7.7%.
“The results of this study show that the digital informality rates in e-commerce are maintained and the total amount in informal purchases increases significantly, given the strong impulse that the digital channel has had in recent times, where both formal purchases as informal they have accelerated strongly ”, explains Bernardita Silva, CNC studies manager.
For the executive, online informality is an issue that is here to stay and action must be taken to ensure that they comply with the payment of the corresponding taxes.
