As a rule, a takeover is followed by the formation of a new management team. This is also the case with Jil Sander, where the handover took place discreetly before the summer break. CEO Axel Keller has been replaced by Ubaldo Minelli, the current managing director of the Italian fashion group OTB, which took over the German label last March. The information has been confirmed by the company.
Axel Keller joined Jil Sander in early 2018 as Commercial Director before being promoted to CEO at the end of the same year. He previously worked at Balenciaga and Maison Martin Margiela.
Ubaldo Minelli has been an experienced manager within Renzo Rosso’s group for years, which includes Jil Sander and his main brand Diesel as well as Maison Margiela, Marni, Viktor & Rolf, a minority stake in the Californian luxury denim label Amiri and children’s clothing Brave Kid and Staff International belong to specialized companies which, in addition to Marni and Margiela, also produce and sell licensed brands such as Dsquared2, Just Cavalli and Koché.
After leading Staff International and Marni, Ubaldo Minelli was appointed CEO of the OTB Group at the end of 2017. In addition to this role, he is now also overseeing Jil Sander. With this appointment, the group takes over the management of the house for which it has great ambitions.
The creative management of Jil Sander has been in the hands of the married couple Lucie and Luke Meier since 2017. After a stopover in Paris, the brand will return to Milan on September 22nd.
