Decathlon opens a new store in the Eaux Vives 2000 shopping center in Geneva and also moves into a new, larger area in the Les Cygnes shopping center.
“We are delighted to be able to gain a foothold on Geneva’s Rive Gauche. This new Decathlon location shows the continuation of our strategy of networking the area through satellite businesses and expanding our offer in Switzerland,” says Adrien Lagache, expansion manager at Decathlon Switzerland .
Decathlon plans to open a new 293 square meter store in the Eaux-Vives 2000 shopping center at the end of October. The company offers additional services at the new location, such as a drive-in service on two specially designated parking spaces in the multi-storey car park.
In the Les Cygnes shopping center, which also belongs to Swiss Life, Decathlon will also open a new sales area on November 24 at the previous location of the Vögele Shoes store, where Decathlon’s current Cygnes branch will move into. With the move, the sports and wellness specialist will double its sales area to 630 square meters.
“We listened to our customers who told us that the range was too limited even for a local store. Decathlon has made it its business to make all sports accessible under one roof. By doubling our space, we can deliver on this promise redeem better, “says Ophélie Miguel, branch manager at Les Cygnes shopping center.
In 2017 Decathlon opened the first branch in Switzerland in Marin-Epagnier. The takeover of the Athleticum chain from the Maus Frères Group in 2018 made it possible to expand its presence in Switzerland before further strengthening its own development strategy.
“The expansion of the store in Les Cygnes and the opening of a new store in the Eaux-Vives 2000 shopping center are testimony to the dynamic development that Decathlon Switzerland is striving for and are in line with our earlier announcements of dynamic staff development. Our aim remains as it is intend to hire 200 employees by the end of 2022 and thus increase our workforce in Switzerland to 1,000, “concluded Adrien Lagache.
Decathlon currently has a team of 830 employees in Switzerland who operate an e-commerce website, 1 warehouse and 23 sales outlets.
Internationally, Decathlon has more than 1,650 sales outlets and employs 9,000 people from more than 80 nations. The company achieved sales of over 11.4 billion euros in 2020.
