The market research company Euromonitor International has just published its report “The future of retail”, developed especially for Google and in which it is projected that e-commerce in Argentina could grow up to 56% in 2025.
According to this research, in 2020 Argentine e-commerce increased by 39% and it is expected that by 2025 this channel will represent a third of the country’s total retail sales growth.
Thus, it is expected that in the next 5 years 15% of total retail sales in Argentina will occur through electronic commerce, a very positive number considering that e-commerce represented only 7% and 11% of total sales in the country in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
The local trend corresponds to the situation in Latin America and its projections. According to Euromonitor International, in 2020 e-commerce grew 54% in the region, with strong peaks of 87% in countries like Peru or 61% in Brazil. By 2025, e-commerce is expected to grow 96% regionally.
However, from the study they highlighted that this growth in electronic commerce will not have an impact on the disappearance of physical stores, but it is expected that they will be reconverted to offer hybrid experiences between physical and digital, distribution centers or pick up. In this sense, by 2025 physical stores will continue to represent 67% of total sales in Argentina and 57% in the region.
Finally, from Google Argentina they highlighted that, in the face of these expectations, the retailers that will grow the most by 2025 will be those that bet on omnichannel strategies. According to the report, these types of strategies will grow 83% in Argentina over the next 5 years, representing 60% of total sales growth.
