Garment exports from Argentina increased by 78.5% year-on-year in terms of exported value, with a total of $ 31.1 million and 60.1% in kilos, according to the latest report from the Argentine Industrial Chamber of the Clothing (CIAI). Since 2017, there were no external sales of more than 3 million dollars in a month.
For the accumulated of the first six months of the year, the increase in exports in dollars was 74.6% and 87.5% in kilograms compared to the same period in 2020. The average price per kilo exported was 29.3 dollars, a drop of 6.9% for that period.
If the six months of 2021 are compared with the same months but 2019 (prior to the pandemic), the growth was 7.6% in dollars. Thus, the amount exported for the first six months of this year is similar to the same period in 2017.
In the first semester of 2021 “socks and socks” was the most exported item with 27.7% of the total value, followed by “pants” with 17.1% and by “men’s shirts” with 15.6 %.
Finally, the CIAI explained that it expects the second semester to continue the trend of the first, with levels of external sales recovering compared to 2020. “In this way, the data is showing a certain normalization of shipments abroad of clothing , with values similar to the years preceding the start of the pandemic ”, explained the organization.
